This past weekend we drove down to Weirwood, VA (on the eastern shore of VA) to meet some of our friends to go camping on a grass strip airfield called Campbell field. The heavy thunderstorms on Saturday gave way to beautiful weather the night we camped and into the next day , when we took part in the weekly "soup-on-sunday" cookout at the airfield, during which about 10 or so planes arrived along with several others who drove. It doesn't get much better than beautiful weather, a grass strip, airplanes coming and going, an open hanger with hot dogs, chile, other food, music, the kids playing and having a good time, and friends around talking airplanes. We all drove down on this particular outing, however, next time I definitely want to make it a flying trip. Apparently, if you call ahead, Gordon (the owner) can arrange to have clams fresh out of the ocean waiting for pickup. I think that's a good enough excuse to make a trip out of it again soon!
